Weaving for Everyone!
This class is designed so that students of all experience levels can learn new weaving techniques and create a finished textured wall hanging with their own signature style.
Beginning weavers:
The beginning weavers will learn:
How to set up the loom
How to use traditional and contemporary stitches to create various effects and textures.
How to remove their finished piece from the loom and add meaningful finishing touches..
Where to access to an online “Stitch Library,” that they can access whenever they need to review stitches or techniques.
When the beginning students complete this course, they will they have a one-of-a-kind wall-hanging sampler to enjoy. They will also have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to create their own unique weavings in the future.
experienced weavers:
The experienced weavers will have an opportunity to create a wall hanging of their own design. Samples of various completed weaving projects will be on hand so that students can determine the appearance and techniques they would like to create in their own work. Experienced students may also bring in pictures of textured weavings that inspire them and use the photos as a starting point for their own work.
When the experienced students complete this course, they will they have a unique textural wall hanging to enjoy. They will also have expanded knowledge, skills, and confidence to create more complex weavings of their own design in the future..
About jan rust
Jan loved creating artwork from the time she was a child. She received a BA degree in art and education in 1970 and between 1970-1980 she taught art to students ages 5-adult in Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Washington.
Between 1980-2010, Jan was busy raising a family and working as an educator. Although she never lost interest in her artistic pursuits, time was filled with a busy family and a busy job.
In 2010, Jan retired, moved to Sandpoint, and focused her attention back to creating art. One of her passions became textured, sculptural weavings. She has traveled throughout the Pacific Northwest to work with prominent weavers and learn unusual weaving techniques. She loves spending her time at POAC and she is having a great time in the Joyce Dillon Studio.

Supply Fee
At no cost, students may borrow the following supplies, on loan, for the duration of the class:
A 20” x 16” Frame Loom
A wooden weaving needle
A tapestry needle
A weaving comb
All yarn will be provided for a $35.00 cash supply fee that will be due to the instructor at the first class session.
If a student prefers to bring their own yarn, the supply fee will be waived.
Supply list
In addition to the provided supplies, students will need to bring the following items to class:
A pair of sharp scissors
A bag or container to carry their weaving and tools back and forth to class.
