Watercolor Essentials:  Mastering the Landscape

Watercolor artists love the challenge of creating a light-saturated landscape painting.   A glowing testimony to the sun filtering through the vegetation can produce excitement, joy and wonder to the viewer.  This class will show the student how to achieve that luminosity.  All levels of experience are welcome.

Project: A sun-lit landscape

NOTE: The Watercolor Essential classes are offered weekly from September 10 to October 29.  Each week’s lesson will cover a separate foundational technique to help students become more proficient in watercolor.  Each class will be a separate unit and not necessarily a building block. Students may register for any combination of the Watercolor Essential classes that they choose.

Susan received a BA in art and she spent 10 years as an art teacher for children and adults in private and public charter schools.  She has spent the last 30 years producing artwork using a variety of mediums.   She has worked with printmaking, watercolor, pastels, acrylic painting, collage, and mixed media. She currently shows her work in the galleries and shows throughout the local area.

9" x 12" 140# Watercolor Block or Pad (Arches or Strathmore 300 Series)

Brushes: Round size 10 or 12, 6 or 8, Flat 1", Liner size 2, 2" Flat Hake Brush, 1"

Blue Painters Tape roll,

11" x 14" Plexiglass (1/8" thick) to tape paper to,

Tube or Pan Watercolors: Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Winsor or Lemon Yellow, Magenta, Payne's Grey, Chinese White or White Gouache, Burnt Sienna,

Small Spray Water Bottle,

Pencil,

Ruler,

Kneaded Eraser,

Paper Towels,

Palette (plastic or ceramic) to mix and organize colors and washes.
