Photo Collage with Beeswax

In this 2-session class, students will explore mixed media in a way that introduces encaustic (painting with wax) in a gentle way. They will enhance sepia-toned photographs with various collage technique along with the layering, fusing, insizing, and stamping of beeswax. They will produce a intriguing 5”x 7”collage that will be ready to display.

This class is open for all levels. Students may provide their own photographs or use one of the multiple choices that will be available in class. Although most materials for this class will be provided, a simple shopping list will be available so that students can easily obtain the supplies to continue creating photo collages on their own.

About Jan Rust

Jan loved creating artwork from the time she was a child.  She received a BA degree in art and education in 1970 and between 1970-1980 she taught art to students ages 5-adult in Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Washington. 

Between 1980-2010, Jan was busy raising a family and working as an educator.  Although she never lost interest in her artistic pursuits, time was filled with a busy family and a busy job.

In 2010, Jan retired, moved to Sandpoint, and focused her attention back to creating art.  Her newest passions are oil and collaging with wax and gel plate printing. She loves spending her time at POAC and she is having a great time in the Joyce Dillon Studio.

A photo image* (This is optional. There will be a collection of printed photos available for your use.)

* If you are bringing your own photo, the image needs to be printed on plain letter paper, toned in sepia or monochrome (black and white)-high contrast works best-lots of lights and darks. Approximate size: 3”x 5”
