Making a Memory Bear
Join us in creating memory bears—a special way to turn cherished memories into a thoughtfully handcrafted keepsake.
Class 1: Learn how to deconstruct articles of clothing, prepare fabric, and cut the necessary pieces.
Class 2: Sew the individual bear parts.
Class 3: Assemble your bear to bring it to life.
Each class will include a bit of homework to help students complete the steps and be ready for the next session. By the end of the course, each participant will leave with their own handcrafted memory bear, made from meaningful fabrics that hold personal significance.
NOTE: This class is designed for those with sewing experience who have their own sewing machine.
about michelle and lorna
Michelle Sebern: Michelle is a retired nurse whose heart for service continues through her artistry. With over a decade of experience in fiber arts, she has found a meaningful way to give back to her community by creating memory bears. Her work blends compassion, creativity, and connection, honoring the lives of loved ones. Michelle is the founder and contributing artist behind The Memory Bear Maker, where her dedication to both craft and community shines.
Lorna Holt: Lorna is a retired educator and taught elementary school for 29 years. Since retiring in 2016, her love of crafting and creating has expanded in many directions, including working with fabric in a variety of ways. Upon the death of her father in November 2024, Lorna connected with Michelle and learned the art of creating Memory Bears. Using her dad's shirts, she lovingly crafted nineteen bears for her family in her dad's memory. Lorna is inspired to pass on this skill to others so that they, too, can create special keepsakes.
