The Art of Inner Expression: Session 2

BASIC MINDFUL ART MAKING PRACTICES

This session of mindful art practices focuses on Color. Color perception is a deeply subjective experience, and through mindfulness practice, we can heighten our awareness of subtle shifts and the nuanced ways colors interact with one another. By mindfully observing color, we connect with our sensory experience of the world and silence the constant chatter of our minds. Techniques such as "color walking" or "color meditation" encourage intentional focus on hues found in nature or a single color to ground and center the mind. This increased awareness reveals how color combinations influence each other's perceived intensity and visual temperature. With this deeper understanding, we can explore advanced color blending techniques, moving beyond simply mixing colors to create smooth, meditative transitions that reflect mindful engagement with the creative process. This non-judgmental approach to observing color not only enhances artistic skill but also promotes emotional balance and a more present-moment awareness.

  • Week 1 - Color Theory: Understanding color interaction

  • Week 2 – Color Grouping and choosing a palette

  • Week 3 - How to use color to create mood and atmosphere.

Attending the Inner Art of Expression Session 1 before this class and attending the Inner art of Expression Session 3 after this class is strongly recommended.
