Gelli Plate Printmaking
A comprehensive Gelli Plate printing course that covers all gel print and design topics. The course fosters a spirit of experimentation aimed at equipping students with the skills and knowledge to create a wide range of unique and expressive prints.
Basic Printing Process
In this class students will learn the fundamental steps of applying paint with a brayer, creating impressions with objects or tools, pulling the print onto paper, and experimenting with ghost prints.
Week One - Line: Understanding the expressive qualities of lines and their role in creating form and movement.
Week Two - Shape: Exploring different types of shapes (geometric and organic) and how they interact to create visual interest.
Week Three - Learning about light and darkness, and how to use it to create depth and emphasis.
About alison barrows-young
Alison Barrows-Young's passion for art is imprinted on her DNA. With generations of artists in her family, it is no wonder why Alison has always followed her heart to create. Her parents encouraged her at a young age to pursue her art, beginning when she was just a child.
Alison holds a bachelor’s in fine arts from Antioch/SVA and a master’s in fine arts from Florida State University. She also has a master’s in education from Concordia University in Portland Oregon. Throughout her life, Alison has divided her career between teaching and professional studio art. She has taught art practice for over 30 years and is particularly fond of teaching art theory along with visual expression.

Basic Liquitex acrylics primary set - 5 x120 ml tubes
Slow-drying acrylic medium (matte) 8fl oz squeeze bottle
Soft Rubber Brayer for Printmaking (Roller) 4-inch
Fine Mist Spray Bottle, 2.5 Ounce
1 square yard soft white felt sheet, 1.4mm thick
8.5x 11 printer paper (a dozen sheets) and any other type of paper you have on hand
Gather collage crafting supplies that you have on hand: paper, fabric scraps, magazine images, rubber stamps, stencils, leaves, flower petals,
Drawing media that you have on hand: pens, pencils, markers, metallic inks, etc.
