Fantasy and Sci-fi Concepting

Explore and develop the basic skills of a conceptual artist for the entertainment industry. World building through visual story telling is the key to any successful concept artist of the fantasy or Sci-fi genre. In this class students will learn to design characters, environments and props using stylized techniques, mood and narrative cues. Emphasis will be on sketching, composition, and iterative design for games, film, publishing, and artist enjoyment.

Roman Kenney is a seasoned concept artist with over 30 years of experience, including his time at Blizzard Entertainment where he contributed to the visual development of such AAA video game titles as World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, and Hearthstone to name a few. His work emphasized stylized character creature and armor design, aligning with Blizzard’s iconic aesthetic that helped to establish and maintain the brand throughout his career. Roman’s approach blends his fundamental skills as a sketch artist with his passion for fantasy and science fiction and a deep understanding of personality composition, and mood to bring his ideas to life.
