Dorset Button Wall Hanging: The 4 Seasons

Students will learn about the Dorset Button of the 17th century and recreate a wall hanging on a larger scale.

The original Dorset Buttons were 1/2" and made by the women of Dorset England to sell to wealthy patrons and clothiers. Students will be creating a wall hanging entitled "The 4 Seasons," by using the Dorset Button techniques but on a much larger scale. The buttons will be 3" and 2". Prior sewing and embroidery experience will not be necessary because step-by=step nstruction will be given during class.
